"Good Afternoon Dave, Thanks for writing me with your concerns about the Palmer's Tavern issues, and forwarding news article links regarding the same. I can tell you what the Weare Board of Selectmen has done, and then my own thoughts (not necessarily representing the board). The Board has asked Weare Police Chief Greg Begin to contact the Tavern owner to discuss security issues. If those discussions are not satisfactory to either the Chief, or the Tavern owner, we will ask both to meet with us to discuss what can be done, and hear all sides. My thoughts are that Palmer's Tavern is a private business, and we do not want to discourage private businesses from locating in Weare, or harrass the businesses that are already here. On the other hand, I think a bar owner has a responsibility to protect his customers from assault as has been allged. I don't go to bars, but I thought that is what bouncers were hired for. I would also think it is in the best interest of the business owner to protect his customers, or his establishment will get a reputation (fairly or not) of being an unsafe place to go, and people will freely choose <b>...</b> |
